Event Description:

SDEA's 2021 Mid-Year Employment Law Update takes place on Tuesday, June 22 and will be led by employment law attorney Chris Olmsted with Ogletree Deakins.
Wondering what case law is developing as a result of COVID-19? There has been 555 cases directly related to the pandemic in California alone, including wrongful discharge, unsafe workplace, and remote work/leave conflicts.
Chris will address these topics plus developing 2021 California wage and hour issues, impacts of the new requirements for CFRA leave, and a look ahead at other pending legislation that may affect employers.

In our usual format, we will have plenty of time to answer your questions!

Additionally, we will have special guest Paul Falcone, Chief Human Resources Officer for the Motion Picture & Television Fund.

Effective Hiring and Employee Motivation in the Post-COVID World

So much has changed since COVID reared its ugly head early last year, not the least of which are the laws that you’ll be learning about in our upcoming mid-year legal update. There’s also a concern that a “job change tsunami” may be heading our way, where workers may be looking to change jobs in order to make up for lost time due to the pandemic’s slowdown effects on their careers over the past year.  Join us to:

  • Discuss how to engage in emotionally intelligent interview strategies that pierce candidates’ hearts as well as their minds and help them choose your organization over competitors that may be wooing them.
  • Address how to motivate and engage your current staff—especially your long-term keepers—via “stay interviews” and a dedicated commitment to their professional and career development.
  • Motivate without money—alternatives for small to mid-sized employers when it comes to retaining your best and brightest talent.
The future of workplace leadership is changing before our very eyes, sped up exponentially by the coronavirus outbreak and new remote work settings.  We’ll cover what’s important to your organization’s people leadership strategy—whether your top performers are onsite or off!
